Well behind its competitors, Meta, Google, Samsung... On June 10, Apple unveiled its new artificial intelligence system, renamed Apple IntelligenceAlthough it relies heavily on the contribution of ChatGPT, Open-AI's AI. Designed for iPhone, iPad and Mac, According to Apple, this AI will be deeply integrated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia. This system will exploit advanced generative models, in synergy with the user's personal context ("tell my boss I'll be late for the meeting", i.e. find out who the boss is in the contacts) to offer useful and relevant functionalities.

Apple Intelligence, Apple assures, will be able to "understand and generate text and images".

simplifying interaction between applications while respecting privacy with Private Cloud Compute -a feature that enables computing capacity to be adapted and scaled between on-device processing and dedicated servers, setting a new standard for confidentiality-. A point that did not convince Elon Musk, who has his own AI, Grok, available in France since the end of May. As soon as Apple's announcement was made, the industry troublemaker let loose on X: "Apple has no idea what will happen once they entrust your data to OpenAI. They're stabbing you in the back", insisted the man who tried a lawsuit against OpenIA before giving up. And Musk announced that he would ban all Apple devices from his companies (Tesla, Space X, X etc...), including visitors, unless they placed their devices in a Faraday (insulating) cage!

In any case, investors welcomed the Cupertino-based company's leap into AI. In the space of 24 hours, Apple shares jumped 14.03%, breaking through the historic 200$ barrier.

What does Apple Intelligence have in store for us?

  • Apple Intelligence offers innovative writing toolsintegrated into Mail, Notes, Pages and other third-party applications. Users can rewrite, revise and summarize text, whether you're polishing a cover letter or organizing class notes. Rewrite, Proofread and Summarize features make written communication easier adapting the tone of the text, checking grammar and summarizing documents.

In the Mail application, the new Priority Messages section displays urgent e-mails at the top of the inbox, while Smart Reply offersFast, relevant answers. Notifications have also been improved, with Priority Notifications and the Reduce Interruptions function, which filters notifications to minimize distractions.

Apple Intelligence also introduces Image Playgrounda feature that allows you to create fun, expressive images in secondsintegrated directly into apps such as Messages, Notes and Keynote. Users can choose from a variety of styles and use personalized concepts in connection with their conversations.

Notes and Phone apps now include features for recording, transcribing and summarizing audio contentThe caller is informed when a recording is in progress, and a summary of key points is generated after the call.

Apple also announced at its developer conference that Siriits somewhat aging voice assistant, has been completely overhauled and improved to provide more complete and relevant answers.. It benefits from deeper integration, becoming more natural and contextual. Users can now write to Siri and use its new capabilities to accomplish a variety of tasks, from adding an address to a contact to managing a playlist. Siri can also collaborate with ChatGPT to provide detailed answers, while respecting Apple's strict confidentiality rules.

These innovations will reach users this summer, but not all of them, and only in Beta versions. Indeed, Apple explains that the computing power required to use its AI requires the use of the latest generations of Apple chips, notably and at the very least the M1 chip for Macs, and the iPhone 15, for mobiles. Customers of other models will appreciate...
