On February 10 and 11, the "AI Action Summit" will be held in Paris. A global strategic event bringing together major tech leaders, scientists, and heads of state, its objective is to take stock and define the rules for AI 2.0.
Paris is preparing to become, for a week, the world capital of artificial intelligence (AI) with the holding, from February 6 to 11, of the 3e AI Action Summit. This edition, organized by France in partnership with India, will bring together the cream of AI, as well as heads of state, renowned scientists, top technology companies and representatives of civil society to discuss the challenges and opportunities related to this revolutionary technology.
A context marked by an unbridled global race
This summit is taking place in a complicated context, mixing anti-regulation actions, ethical questions and exacerbated international competition around AI. Even more so since in the United States Donald Trump announced (on January 20) a colossal 4-year $500 billion plan to strengthen the American position in this strategic area. Meanwhile, China continues to invest heavily to become the world leader in AI by 2030.
Faced with these giants and their financial power, France intends to play a central role by promoting ethical and sustainable AI, while valuing its national ecosystem which has more than 1,000 specialized startups and cutting-edge infrastructure such as the Jean Zay supercomputer.
A prestigious casting
Among the personalities expected are: Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, Dario Amodei (Anthropic), French Arthur Mensch (Mistral AI), as well as several Nobel Prize winners such as Demis Hassabis (chemistry) and Daron Acemoglu (economics).
Influential political figures, including Donald Trump and Elon Musk, have also been invited by the Elysée.
Summit Highlights
The Summit will take place at the Grand Palais and will be structured into two days rich in discussions:
- February 10: International Forum
The first day will feature highly anticipated discussions. Several conferences and round tables will address key themes such as:
– The future of work with AI.
– Combating disinformation using advanced technologies.
– Global governance of inclusive AI.
– Technology demonstrations and artistic projections will highlight concrete applications of AI in various sectors.
- February 11: Plenary session of heads of state
– Around a hundred world leaders, including Emmanuel Macron and Narendra Modi, will discuss the policies needed to guide the development of AI. We look forward to hearing Elon Musk’s views if he makes the trip…
– A joint declaration could be adopted to promote AI that respects human rights and the environment.
In parallel, preliminary events will take place from February 6th in Paris-Saclay, where researchers, companies but also major schools such as Polytechnic, will take stock of the latest developments in AI and explore current and future scientific challenges. Cultural workshops open to the public will also be held on February 8th and 9th to the National Library of France.
Very high expectations
This exceptional meeting, on the 3rde of the genre, aims to meet three major objectives: making AI accessible, safe and independent for all, promote more environmentally friendly technologies And establish effective global governance that reflects the diversity of actors. In other words, XXL ambitions!
By bringing together so many influential players, Paris aims not only to be a place of dialogue but also a driving force for shaping the global technological future. France, which wants to leave its mark on this path under construction of AI, hopes that this summit will result in an ambitious declaration setting out the bases of artificial intelligence at the service of collective progressBut it is not a given that the current mood, which is rather favourable to deregulation and libertarianism, will not curb so many hopes.
Unless, if questioned, the AI suggests new, original and consensual paths...
